As part of the Building European Democracy project, CROSOL, in collaboration with partner organisations from Belgium and Denmark, has published an e-book: European Parliament Elections 2024 – A Citizen’s Guide to the EU Elections.
The election cycle from 2019 to 2024 will be remembered as a challenging period for the European Union. The onset of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020 led to the Union’s first direct involvement in crisis management, with the European Commission playing a key role in coordinating vaccine procurement and issuing policy guidelines.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine prompted a strong EU response and changes in both internal and external policies. Recent conflicts, such as the one in Gaza, have highlighted the need to reconsider the EU’s role as a geopolitical actor.
With the upcoming European Parliament elections on 9 June, the focus is shifting to the green transition. The European Commission’s ambitious goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2040 have sparked reactions, particularly in the agricultural sector.
The e-book provides readers with an overview of key aspects of the EU and its institutions, based on the experiences of three different countries: Denmark, Belgium, and Croatia. It also highlights the various EU participants and focuses on the decision-making process.
